What is full form of MBBS?

Full form of MBBS is Bachelor of Medicine and  Bachelor of Surgery. Actually MBBS is derived from Latin language. In Latin MBBS stands for Medicine baccalaureus baccalaureus Chirurgiae.

What is MBBS ?

MBBS is an Under graduate Degree course in India for Aspirants who want to become Doctor. MBBS is a basically professional degree course to become Doctor. So you may say that a person with an MBBS degree is a Doctor in India.

As the full form suggest, an MBBS Degree is a course combination of both Medicine and Surgery. MBBS is the first step to become a Doctor after 12th. Duration of MBBS course is a 5 year 6 month including 1 year Internship. basically a 1 year Internship includes providing service at hospitals, health centers free of cost or working at NGO Camps. You can work as a Certified Medical Practitioner in India after holding an MBBS degree.

MBBS degree is divided into 9 Semesters and MBBS syllabus include study of Anatomy, Pathology, Pharmacology, Paedictrics, Biochemistry, Surgery basics and community health and medicine.

MBBS will give you further career options of specialization in Cardiology, Organ transplant surgery, Radiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Anesthesiology, Dermology, etc.

While in US, both of the degrees are awarded separately as the M.D (Doctor of Medicine) and D.O (Doctor of osteopathic Medicine). It is the only bachelor degree that makes the students eligible to carry the term " Doctor" with their name.

How to become an MBBS doctor ? and ( MBBS Entrance Exams )

To become an MBBS doctor you will have to pass the exam Named NEET. From 2019-20, It has become compulsory for every candidate to pass NEET in order to take admissio0n in any medical college in India (including AIIMS and Private colleges).

Full form of NEET is National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. NEET is a national level entrance exam for medical aspirants You can apply for MBBS or BDS ( Bachelor of Dental Surgery) courses at various medical colleges.

NEET is conducted by NTA ( National Testing Agency) every year. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India (GOI) has established National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent autonomous and self-sustained premier testing Organization for conducting efficient, transparent and international standard test in order to access the competency of candidates for admission to premier higher education institutions. 

MBBS Eligibility :

Following are the essential requirements to be fulfilled by the students in order to apply for MBBS admission in India.

  • Candidate must have passed their 10+2 level exam of degree at least 50 % marks from any recognized board in science subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with English as the main subject for their qualifying examination.
  • Candidates must have completed the age of 17 years before seeking admission to the MBBS course.
  • Candidates need to qualify for the required entrance exam named mentioned above for MBBS admission. Students belonging from the reserved category must have minimum percentage of 40 % marks while unreserved and OBC category students must score minimum 50 % marks in NEET .
  • All the students will have to fulfill the additional eligibility  conditions mentioned by the additional eligibility conditions mentioned by the regulatory authorities for MBBS i.e. Medical Council of India (MCI).

MBBS College Fees :

If you get admission in Government medical college, then you need not to worry about your academic fees. because Fees of any Government Medical College is very low.
If we talk about All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS), Delhi, Them its fee is just INR1628 per annum. Some Government Medical colleges fees are as high as INR 100,000 to  lakhs highest at one or two colleges. But many scholarships are available to students, So no need to worry.

Problem comes forward for middle class family students if you are thinking about private medical colleges  in India because private medical colleges ask for huge donations and it's fee can be as high as INR 15 to 20 lakhs per annum. So I will suggest 'Study hard and try your best in the Exam'. There are some Private colleges having fees nearly INR 5 lakhs and scholarships are also available. You may also go there on your merit basis.

What are the career options after MBBS? & Salary of MBBS Doctor :

During one year of the MBBS internship, MBBS graduate students can work with hospitals and healthcare centers as consultants, physicians, medical assistants in critical care units, under training of senior doctors. They can also work in health campaigns by the government or NGOs and help the public with awareness about diseases, medicines, health and fitness through conferences and meetings.
  1. Student gets registered as doctor at the Medical council of India so you can start your practice in your personal clinic.
  2. Also you can apply for post graduation to do specialization in various department like neurology, nephrology, radiology, etc. mentioned above and also for post graduation in M.Phil, Phd so that you will get a chance for research in the medical field.
  3. Plenty of jobs are available for these professionals in the field of Biomedical Companies, Health Centers, Hospitals, Laboratories, Nursing homes, Polyclinics, Private Practice, etc.
  4. An MBBS -degree holder can also associate with pharmaceuticals as research associates.
  5. You can work as a professor in medical college if you are interested in teaching.
  6. In Private companies and Government jobs the salary of an MBBS doctor is from INR 5 lakhs to 12-15 lakhs per annum. But you can earn even more from private clinics or hospitals.
